Medicine - Clinical Academic Position (Interventional Cardiology)

The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University and London Health Sciences Centre, and St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre are seeking a physician for full-time clinical academic appointment to Western University. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) in the province of Ontario.

The Division of Cardiology at Western is well-recognized and respected both nationally and internationally. The Division’s 30 physicians provide secondary, tertiary, and quaternary cardiovascular services for the City of London, Southwestern Ontario and beyond. The Division has the largest Royal College Subspecialty Training Program in the Department of Medicine. Research expertise within the Division is extensive.

Applicants for this position will have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise graduate trainees. Experience with clinical research and ongoing interest in collaborating with colleagues or leading clinical research projects to enhance research productivity in the Division would be a welcome asset. Rank, term of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and compensation will be comprised of fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic salary.

The Division of Cardiology is seeking a Cardiologist whose focus is Interventional Cardiology with specific expertise in Structural Heart Interventions. Such individuals should have an academic interest in medical education, innovation and research and/or quality improvement to fulfill a clinician teacher or researcher position. The successful candidate must have completed fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology and be proficient in percutaneous coronary interventions. The successful candidate is also expected to have completed a dedicated Structural Heart Interventions Fellowship. Strong preference will be given to applicants with expertise in percutaneous mitral and tricuspid edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER/T-TEER). They must be able to join established teams and develop a quality improvement strategy that includes appropriate educational strategies for the local and regional expansion of these programs. They must have a strong interest in helping to develop, maintain and participate in a team/programmatic approach to valvular/structural heart disease that will manage and follow patients before, during and after any interventions. They would participate in the clinic with colleagues in Heart Failure, Cardiac Rehabilitation and cardiac imaging who have a particular interest in valvular/structural heart disease.

The successful candidate will hold a limited term academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a continuing academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will join a busy academic practice of eight other academic Interventional Cardiologists working within a teaching hospital environment that includes coronary and structural interventional cardiology fellows. Primary duties will involve management of cardiology patients in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, ambulatory Cardiac Clinic and assigned weeks of general cardiology in-patient clinical teaching unit coverage and coronary care unit.

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of a competitive alternative funding and payment plan, and academic salary.
