Job Summary 
The Custodian provides complete Custodial services at the Abbotsford or Chilliwack campus as assigned. The incumbent is responsible for the care of assigned areas, such as washrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and entrance ways, performing complete cleaning services, removing garbage, maintaining the appearance of floor areas and stairwells, and ensuring that classrooms are ready for learning. 

The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining the security of buildings, locking and unlocking buildings and classrooms as necessary, moving furniture and equipment as required, and removing litter and snow from the exterior walkways as required.

The Custodian ensures the cleanliness and daily general appearance of the University.

Qualifications 

  • Building Service Worker Certificate is required.
  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • WHMIS certification is required.
  • Knowledge of commercial equipment and procedures used for stripping and waxing floors required.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Duties require a moderate degree of physical exertion including bending down, kneeling, crouching for extended periods of time, pulling, pushing, manually carrying, lifting & transporting heavy objects.
  • Required to work in environments exposed to strong fumes, noise, dust, heights, and equipment with moving parts that requires employee to be cognizant of all safety protocols & procedures inherent in their field, making use of professional protection equipment such as ear plugs, safety glasses, and gloves.
  • All Custodial staff required to wear a UFV uniform.
  • Shift work applies.
