Job Summary
The Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation is responsible for providing strategic, dynamic leadership and management of all UFV Varsity and Club athletic programs and Campus Recreation; hiring and supervision of all coaching and athletics and campus recreation staff in line with the strategic goals of the University and the Department; preparing and administering the Athletics and Campus Recreation budget; and maintaining an athletics program that stresses academic success within the student-athlete concept.

The Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation represents the University at provincial, national, and regional athletic associations and is the primary liaison between UFV and local and regional sports organizations and communities at large.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Athletic Administration, Leadership, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related discipline, or a combination of education equivalent to a 4-year degree
  • A minimum of eight (8) years related experience is required
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to the position
  • Previous experience in a post-secondary athletics program, preferably at the USPORTS level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of leading a post-secondary athletics program
  • Demonstrated success in community relations, public relations, and fundraising
  • Knowledgeable about USPORTS and Canada West, as well as relevant community, provincial, and national regulations
  • Proven ability to develop, monitor, and evaluate organizational plans
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including teambuilding
  • Evidence of an inclusive and collaborative approach to leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, presentation and oral communication skills, delivered in a manner appropriate to the audience
  • Strong budget and financial management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to model appropriate professional, ethical, and collaborative behaviours that engender collaboration, trust, and respect consistent with the responsibilities of this position
