The School of Public Health at the Université de Montréal (ESPUM) is the only French-language school of public health in the world and the only one in Canada accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Since 2024, the School has also been accredited by the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA), making it the only French-language school of public health in the world and the only one in Canada to hold both prestigious international accreditations. Each year, ESPUM welcomes more than 1,200 students committed to improving population health through education, research, knowledge creation, and knowledge mobilization across all fields of public health. Its faculty members actively contribute to advancing knowledge and training the next generation of researchers and public health professionals.

The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (DMSP) brings together professors working in five areas of specialisation: health promotion, global health, epidemiology, biostatistics and bioethics. The DMSP’s mission is to contribute actively, through teaching and research, to the development and promotion of knowledge and practices that support public health.

Day-to-day responsibilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Teach both general and specialised courses in global health, at Master's and doctoral levels;
  • Supervise Master’s and PhD students, as well as postdoctoral research fellows, in the completion of directed studies, theses and research projects;
  • Develop and conduct a research program in global health and publish in academic journals;
  • Contribute actively to the functioning of the Department and the School through participation in administrative, teaching and research activities;
  • Contribute to the reputation of the DMSP, the ESPUM and the Université de Montréal by participating in various academic and extra-academic activities, both in scientific and practical settings.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in global health or a related discipline;
  • Expertise in one or more areas of global health, which may include the global burden of chronic diseases or global health at the intersection of climate and systemic change;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of theories and methods relevant to global health;
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality instruction in global health to a variety of audiences;
  • Demonstrate the potential to supervise graduate students;
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct high-level research focused on analysis or intervention in global health;
  • Demonstrate the potential to develop local, national and international collaborations;
  • Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
